Calvin Recognized as CGM; University of Akron Professionals Achieve CGT

Jeffrey Calvin has become the 93rd Certified Grounds Manager (CGM). He received his certification on December 17, 2003. Mr. Calvin has been employed by Joppa Maintenance Company, Inc. in Bel Air, Md. as their operations manager since 1999.

A couple of other grounds professionals from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, also recently received recognition as Certified Grounds Technicians.

The University’s Assistant Grounds Keeper, Tara Smiley became the 34th Certified Grounds Technician on October 2, 2003. She has actively performed under this job title since April of 2000. Tara’s primary responsibilities are mowing and fertilizing the lawns, designing and planting beds, weeding, mulching, pruning, watering and plowing snow.

John Dieringer, master horticulturist at the University joined Smiley in becoming the 35th Certified Grounds Technician on October 20, 2003. Dieringer has served in this position since October 1979.
