(BALTIMORE,
MD) - The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) has announced
the creation of a new award to honor E. Earl Wilson, a past president
of PGMS and one of the most influential individuals responsible
for the creation of the Green Industry Exposition (GIE), it was
announced today by Todd Cochran, CGM, president of PGMS and the
Asst. County Park Superintendent for Bergen County (N.J.) Dept.
of Parks.
PGMS shall consider the E. Earl Wilson Award to be its highest
honor, said Cochran. It will be presented as deemed appropriate
for outstanding and sustained service and dedication to the Society
and the Green Industry as a whole, and will be given for the first
time during ceremonies at this years PGMS School of Grounds
Management which is held in conjunction with the GIE in Charlotte,
N.C., November 3-7.
In creating the E. Earl Wilson Award, PGMS elected to revamp its
previously considered highest honor, the Gold Medal. Now, instead
of presenting the Gold Metal as deemed appropriate, PGMS will present
the award each year to an individual or entity to recognize them
for outstanding and long-term achievements and/or contributions
to the Green Industry. During the ceremonies in North Carolina,
PGMS will honor George Toma with the Gold Medal.
PGMS
will continue to present its Presidents Award to outstanding
Society volunteers as well as its Green
Star Awards that recognize excellence in grounds management.

and its School
