Certified Grounds Technician (CGT) > Maintaining Certification

gs A certification is just the first step towards professionalism. Maintaining your certification through continuing education, be it academic instruction, technical classes or other education opportunities, will help build your skills essential in your personal professional development.

As of January 1, 2011, all certified CGT's will need to earn 35 CEU's over a period of five (5) years. Upon recertifying, each candidate will need to submit proof of attendance as noted below in the accreditation category.

Accreditation Categories:

A.) Classes taken (that pertain to grounds, business, management, horticultural or technical).
- Conferences: 1 for each day
- Accredited Programs: External CEUs vary
- College credits in grounds-related or business courses: 15 CEUs per semester

B.) Teach or Write an article for the Forum or professional trade magazine tying in
PGMS.
- Write article: 1 CEU for each

C.) Involvement with Society
- Branch officer: 3 CEUs per a year of service
- Board of Directors: 5 CEUs per a year of service
- Committee: 3 CEUs per a year of service

D.) GIE attendance/ Regional attendance/ Branch Meetings
- 1 CEU for a branch meeting
- 5 CEU for a Regional Seminar and Site Visitation attendance
- 10 CEU for a full GIE registration

E.) Certifications
- Pesticide License: 5 CEUs per year - Copy of license required

- First Aid Certificate: 3CEUs per year - Copy of certificate required
