PGMS Events > D.C. Branch Update

November 2008

This past year we have had many memorable meetings at lots of fascinating places, but our November meeting will be hard to forget. Seven of our senior members formed a panel discussion to share their histories, perspectives, and advice. Six of the seven have been members for over 50 years or just under that. So, we heard about post World War II gardening, 90 cents/hour wages, the huge impact of Ladybird Johnson on D.C., mega tree projects and other tall tales. One participant shared that he originally joined for the purpose of growing his business, but that his experience quickly changed from one of networking to one of friendship. Business is obviously a part of all of our lives, but in uncertain times it is good to have friends. These men are a living reminder that we have a long history, roots if you will, in an industry that has a daily impact on people's lives. That is reason to be both proud and grateful.
