Ed Pagliaro of Western New England University Earns CGM Status

(Baltimore, MD) - The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) rang in the New Year by announcing its #135th CGM to be Ed Pagliaro of Massachusetts. PGMS recently caught up with the new CGM, read the interview below!

PGMS: How long have you been in your current work position?
Pagliaro: I have been the Grounds Manager at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass. for the past seven years.

PGMS: Why did you want to become a CGM?
Pagliaro: I wanted to advance in the grounds management profession to a degree where I could highlight the effort and skills required for a Grounds Manager. I wanted the value of a CGM added to my career and position, while providing the University with a significant management document for the department.

PGMS: What did you think of the program?
Pagliaro: The CGM was so beneficial in areas I was not very proficient in. The entire process helped me gain valuable insight as well as new sets of skills to make me a better manager and representative of our industry.

PGMS: What advice do you have for aspiring CGMs?
Pagliaro: If you are serious about our profession, then you need to complete this process to upgrade your career and standing in the trade. Also be patient through the process, but also acquire and make good use of a mentor like the gentleman I had in Keith Volsky, CGM of Siena College.

PGMS: What do you think is the biggest topic or issue affecting grounds managers right now?
Pagliaro: Sustainablity and cultural practices that enhance current landscape management practices. Keeping up with all new technology and information so that we continue to provide our institutions with the latest changes to all areas of grounds management.
