PGMS Celebrates Election of Monica Higgins as President

Monica Higgins, CGM of Naples, Fla. was elected and installed as the new president of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) during the Society's annual business meeting held on Saturday, Oct. 31 in conjunction with the 2009 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky.

The 88th grounds management professional to hold the office, Higgins succeeds Gene Pouly as the chief elected officer of the 98-year-old green industry organization. In addition to Higgins, PGMS members elected Joseph Jackson, CGM of Duke University in Durham, N.C. as their president-elect. Donald Bottger, CGM of Viejas Casino in Alpine, Calif. was elected vice president and John Van Etten, CGM of Hoffman Landscape & Design in Scotia, N.Y. was elected as secretary/treasurer.

The regional directors are as follows: North East Regional Director, Mike Loftus, CGM of the University of Delaware in Newark; North Central Regional Director, Walter Bonvell, CGM of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio; North West Regional Director, Gerald Landby of Carroll College in Helena, Mont.; South East Regional Director, Marion Bolick, CGM of Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C.; South Central Regional Director, John Burns of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas; and South West Regional Director, Ron Hostick, CSFM of San Diego State University.

Directors at Large include: Kevin Harvey, CGM of St. Augustine - St. Johns County Airport Authority in St. Augustine, Fla.; Mark Feist of American University in Washington, DC; and Gerry Dobbs, CGM of Michigan State University East Lansing, Mich.

Thomas C. Shaner, a Certified Association Executive continues to serve the Board as PGMS Executive Director. PGMS leaders are already at work planning the 2010 School of Grounds Management & GIE+EXPO which will take place in Louisville, KY., Oct. 27-30, 2010.
