Missouri's Joe Fearn Earns CGM
Status
(Baltimore,
MD) - The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) has announced
that Joe Fearn of Springfield, Mo. has become the 122nd grounds
management professional to successfully complete its Certified Grounds
Manager (CGM) program.
Fearn
currently serves as Grounds Foreman at Jordan Valley Park with Springfield
Greene County Parks where he has been for the past 5 ½ years.
PGMS
recently spent a few moments getting to know Joe.
PGMS:
How long have you been a PGMS member? Fearn:
Four years
PGMS:
Why did you want to become a CGM?
Fearn: I wanted an objective
way to document my knowledge and experience. CGM accreditation is
also a way to increase your value to your organization.
PGMS: What did you think of
the program?
Fearn: I think the program is
excellent. It requires one to think through the entire grounds management
process, front to back and top to bottom. By completing the CGM
process you are helping to see your grounds management as a whole.
It helps you as the manager and also educates your organization
as to the complexity and dynamism of grounds management. The program
helped me bring my approach and processes into focus.
PGMS:
What advice do you have for aspiring CGMs?
Fearn:
GO FOR IT! Review the requirements of the CGM program and begin
to evaluate your approach to grounds management. Understand that
the CGM is not a simple undertaking, but it is achievable if you
assess your operation logically and honestly.
