Cincinnati's Walt Bonvell Earns CGM Status

(Baltimore, MD) - PGMS is proud to announce Walt Bonvell of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio has become the 124th grounds management professional to successfully complete its Certified Grounds Manager (CGM) program. PGMS recently spent a few moments getting to know Walt.

PGMS: How long have you been a PGMS member?
Bonvell: Almost a member now for 11 years.

PGMS: What is your current position at work? Bonvell: I am Xavier University's grounds foreman.

PGMS: Why did you want to become a CGM? Bonvell: Well, first of all, I'm on the Board of Directors with PGMS, and just about all of the board members have their CGM, so I was "coached" to become one. But that's not the only reason. I needed to know that after being in the Grounds Industry almost 35 years, how much do I really know. I've been working the grounds at Xavier University now, for 27 years, and it's amazing how much I learned about the grounds at Xavier, by taking the CGM program.

PGMS: What did you think of the CGM program?
Bonvell: I think it is a very intense program and a lot to get done in a year, but it took me almost eight months once I scheduled myself. It's a very well put together program and it covers all aspects of Grounds Management. I have not seen a program like it before, and I'm glad PGMS has it.

PGMS: What advice do you have for aspiring CGMs?
Bonvell: To take it early in your career, so you can enjoy the benefits you will receive from being a CGM. I just felt like I was in another part of my career by accomplishing my CGM. There are also a lot of good people in the program that will help you through your yours.
