The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) will be coming to Washington, DC on July 17-18 as part of our 2008 Regional Grounds Management Seminars & Site Visitations Series. This is a great chance to enjoy a family vacation in the nation’s capital, while also taking advantage of the tremendous opportunity to get your career on the right track.

Designed to provide grounds managers with the hard-to-find opportunity to gain knowledge, ask questions, and network with their peers, this interactive program will feature education seminars on must-know topics as well as behind-the-scenes tours of area grounds management programs.

Coordinated in conjunction with PGMS’ DC Branch’s Field Day event at American University and supported by sponsors such as Bartlett Tree Experts, this program will include behind the scenes visits to five successful grounds management programs in the DC area as well as a series of in-depth leadership/management education classes.

Special note: An optional event is planned for Thursday morning at American University
7:30 a.m. - noon. The DC Branch of PGMS is offering optional registration for PGMS members to its Green Industry Field Day and Trade Show (1/2 day registration fee for PGMS members attending the Regional Meeting $40)

11 a.m.	Bus departs Days Inn for American University campus

noon	Lunch Enjoy a BBQ chicken lunch, "Blue Grass" music, and trade show on the "Quad" at American University

1:15 p.m.	Tour of American University's Arboretum and Gardens A hands-on tour highlighting management strategies at this Green Star Award-winning campus

2:30 p.m.	"Green Roof Considerations" Wayne Mills of Wayne's Wholesale Nursery and American University's Mark Feist discuss the Design, Plant Selection, and Maintenance considerations that must be made when planning a green roof.

3:45 p.m.	Load Buses for Visitation to Mt. Vernon Gardens

5 p.m.	Reception and Tour of Mt. Vernon Gardens

6:30 p.m.	Dinner at Mt. Vernon Inn Sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts

8 p.m.	Buses depart to return to Days Inn

3 p.m.	Depart Smithsonian Institution for Sidwell Friends School

3:45 p.m.	Presentation and tour of Sidwell Friends School Enjoy an interactive, behind the scenes tour of this Platinum LEED Facilty and its sustainable grounds practices.
