North East Ohio Branch Hosts Successful Summer Meeting & Site Tour

The Northeast Ohio Branch of PGMS held a meeting on the campus of the PGMS Green Star recipient College of Wooster on Monday, August 18. The meeting was sponsored by Central Farm & Garden, Davey Tree of Wooster, Mast Lepley Ag Hardware and Turf.

Wooster's Director of Campus Grounds Beau Mastrine presented detailed information on the overall operations of the Grounds Department. The College of Wooster Grounds Department is made up of 10 full-time staff members that take care of 250 acres, including a 9-hole golf course. All staff members are responsible for the daily operations, landscape design, landscape installation, irrigation maintenance, leaf removal and snow removal on campus. One unique aspect of the Wooster grounds operation is that staff members are also responsible for the maintenance of their equipment.

Brian Smith of Progressive Insurance led a seminar on how to make a power point presentation, showing basic use of the software and how effective it can be. Walt Bonvell, PGMS North Central Regional Director and grounds foreman at Xavier University, spoke about the importance of the networking possibilities PGMS brings to individuals and organizations. Also in attendance, was PGMS President-Elect Gene Pouly, CGM. In all, 15 professionals attended the morning session and over 20 attended the afternoon programming.
